“Multae Terrae, Una Hereditas”

Many Lands, One Inheritance

This theme highlights the idea that classical heritage is no longer confined to one region or tradition—it belongs to students and scholars across the world. It honors the global reach of ancient cultures and encourages participants to explore how classical texts, languages, and ideas take on new life through different cultural perspectives. It also invites reflection on what it means to inherit and reinterpret the classical world in a modern, international context. This year’s theme celebrates the global dimensions of the classical tradition. Multae Terrae, Una Hereditas invites students to reflect on how the legacy of the ancient world—its languages, stories, philosophies, and art—belongs not just to one nation, region, or people, but to a shared human inheritance shaped by diverse interpretations across many lands.

  • What is the NJCL International Convention?

The NJCL International Online Convention is a two-day virtual event (May 31–June 1, 2025) that brings together high school students from around the world to celebrate classical studies. Modeled after the National Junior Classical League’s renowned annual conventions, this event offers contests, workshops, academic testing, creative competitions, and cultural exchange—all online and accessible globally.

  • Who can participate?

Any high school student with an interest in the classical world can join—no matter where you’re from or whether your school has a Latin program! We especially welcome international students who may not have access to U.S.-based classical opportunities. You do not need to be an NJCL member to participate.

  • Is this convention officially recognized by the NJCL?

Yes! This event is officially recognized and supported by the National Junior Classical League (NJCL). It upholds NJCL’s mission while expanding access to students worldwide.

  • What kinds of contests and events are offered?

Academic Tests in Latin grammar, mythology, Roman history, and more

    Certamen (Latin quiz bowl)

Creative Contests like costume design, original art, and spoken word

Workshops led by scholars and student leaders

    Cultural Showcases and student panels

Team Events like escape rooms and mythology games

  • How do I register?

Registration opens in early April and will be available directly on our website. There will be individual registration and school group options. Early registration comes with digital perks and shoutouts!

  • Is there a fee to participate?

We aim to keep the event affordable and accessible. A small participation fee may be required to support platform costs, guest speakers, and prizes—but need-based fee waivers will be available for international and low-income participants.

  • What if I don’t speak Latin or haven’t studied it formally?

No problem! While we offer Latin-based activities, many of our events—like mythology, art, creative writing, and workshops—are open to all students with a love for ancient cultures. This is a place for curious learners, not just experienced Latinists.

  • Will I receive recognition or awards?

Yes! Participants will receive digital certificates of participation, and winners in each contest category will be awarded official NJCL-recognized certificates, online features, and prizes. Winning entries may also be showcased on our website and social media.

  • How can teachers or sponsors get involved?

Teachers can register their students as a group, serve as volunteer judges or workshop leaders, and help us spread the word! We’re also happy to provide promotional materials for schools.
