We believe that the classical tradition is a shared human inheritance—not bound by borders or limited to one language, curriculum, or country. Our mission is to empower students of all backgrounds to explore the ancient world in their own contexts, contribute their voices to its ongoing legacy, and connect with a diverse international community of young classicists.

By centering global perspectives and fostering dialogue across cultures, the NJCL International Online Convention reimagines what it means to study the classics in the 21st century—and invites every student to take part in shaping its future.

Our Story & Mission

The NJCL International Online Convention is a global student-led gathering officially recognized by the National Junior Classical League (NJCL), designed to expand access to classical studies for high school students around the world. Founded in 2022 by Alex (Hayoung) Jung, a Korean student passionate about bridging the gap between classical education and international accessibility, the convention was created in response to the lack of inclusive, global opportunities for students outside the U.S. who were eager to engage with Latin, Greek, mythology, and the ancient world.

While inspired by the long-standing traditions of the U.S.-based NJCL National Convention, our event is uniquely international in spirit and digital in form. Since its founding, the NJCL International Convention has brought together students from dozens of countries, many of whom come from schools or regions without formal Latin programs or access to classical extracurriculars. Each year, we create a two-day online experience featuring academic testing, creative contests, Certamen (Latin quiz bowl), workshops led by scholars and students, and cultural showcases that reflect the diverse ways classical texts are interpreted around the world.
